Bahrain's trade union said that they have registered 800 workers who were sacked from their jobs in the past weeks for participating in anti-government protests. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
A top official from the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions told Xinhua that until Thursday they have registered a total of 800 sacked workers.
"We expect the number to be close to 1,000 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as some sacked workers have not registered with the union," the official said.
He said workers from Alba, Bapco were the highest among those dismissed along with others in both public and private sectors.
The official said a delegation from the International Labor Organization was expected to visit Bahrain by next week and hold talks with government heads and employers [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], highlighting concerns over mass dismissals.
Last month, government ordered a crackdown in public sector and urged employers to take action against staff who violated rules and were absent from work during the wave of anti-government protests that started from mid-February.
